Residential development: Clearing of the Rainforest for residential development is athreat to the Daintree Rainforest this is leading to fragmentation. Its affecting wildlife, plants, and anything that livesin the Daintree Rainforest.
Fragmentation: Is happening to clear for farming, but this makes it difficult for plants and animals to move from one area to another. It also limits breeding and make species more vulnerable to extinction.
Climate change: Climate change is becoming a major for the Daintree Rainforest. Global warming is decreasing the habitats of species that live in the cooler rainforests, only leaving some places in the rainforest for them to live. It has been predicted that certian species in the rainforest would lose over half their current habitat with only a 1 degree temperature increase.
Weeds: Clearing of rainforest habitat for residential development has lead to an increase in the number of unknown weed species in the Daintree. Weeds can disrupt ecosystems, and reduce food for species.
Environmental Status: The Daintree Rainforest is 180 million years old , its the oldest surviving rainforest in the world. Its 460 sqaure miles that has 30,000 species of plants and animals. It has one of the wettest climates in Australia, but the humidity is still very high.
How Humans Are Impacting The Rainforest: Logging: this affects the Daintree Rainforest because if loggers go and cut down trees there will be no rainforest left causing deforestation.
Farming: this affects the Daintree Rainforest because farmers burn the rainforest to clear land for more farming.
Mining: this is affecting the rainforest because miners clear the rainforest and dig up the ground for minerals.
Extraction Of Minerals And Energy: Gold, Copper, and Diamonds are metals and gemstones are important resources that are important to the rainforest. Taking these away from the rainforest can damage the ecosystem.
Population Of Daintree, Queensland: 78 people live in Daintree Queensland Oil Drilling: Oil Drillling in Queensland has an impact on the rainforest because the oil goes into the soil causing deforestation and degradation. It releases toxic fumes, and broken pipelines result in oil spillage.
National Park: The Daintree National Park is loacted in Dedin Queensland in Australia.
Dangers: Deforestation is a danger to the Rainforest, Oil Spills, along with species and plants going extinct.
How Much Land Is Lost: 150 acres lost every minute!
Pollution: Land pollution is being caused by tourists and vehicles. Tourists who visit the rainforest are littering leaving the Rainforest dirty. Land pollution is hurting the land and the animals along with habitats, with this happening the Rainforest will become damaged and eventually turn into a wasteland. Marine dumping is being caused by the tourists also, they are dumping garbage into the Daintree River, this is causing trash to pile up and decompose slowly. Also in the air water particles and carbon dioxide mix and form weak acid. The acid absorbs air pollution which makes it more acidic because air pollution already contains gases. This hurts the wildlife in the water and the people around it.
