1-Blue Quandongs (Elaeocarpus Angustifolius) Is a rainforest tree up to 50 metres tall, usually with elaborate buttressed roots, bitter edible fruit. Its known as blue marble tree, blue fig, or blue quandongs.It is found in Queensland,New South Wales and New Caledonia. It is round and blue, between 20 and 30 mm across. Aboriginals would eat the Blue Quandongs or preserve them.
2-Burrawang Palm (Macrozamia Communis) is a palm-like shrub that has sharp edges; that is found on the east coast of Australia. They grow in wet to dry forests, they grow in sandy soils and nearby coastal ranges. It naturally grows in warm to hot summers and cool to cold winters. Aboriginal people knew how to treat the poisonous seeds and remove the toxins before they were eaten. The Chamorro People knew how to treat the seeds, fruit bats ate cycad seeds as well.
3-Wild Ginger (Asarum) They have heart shaped leaves with brown or reddish flowers.The plant is called wild ginger because of the taste and smells like ginger, the two leaves come together each year from the growing tip. Wild ginger is a member of the birthwort family, its produced in spring-summer. Native Americans used this plant to treat headaches, intestinal pain, knee pain, arthritis, indigestion, tuberculosis, colic and as a general tonic. Early settlers cooked the root in water for many days, that then liqiud and was boiled down to create syrup. Native Americans used the plant to heal wounds. The seeds from the plant are distributed by ants and eaten.
4-Stinging Tree (Dendrocnide Moroides) is common to rainforest areas in north east of Australia.It is known for stinging hairs that cover the whole plant. It is the most toxic of the Australian plants.The fruit is edible if the stinging hairs that cover it are removed.It grows 1–3 metres in height, it has large, heart-shaped leaves about 12–22 cm long and 11–18 cm wide. Caterpillars, butterflies, stick insects, beetles, and possums eat the leaves of the tree.
5- Native Hibiscus ( Hibiscus Lasiocarpos) They are 4–18 cm across with large with petals in color from white,pink, red, orange,yellow and purple,they are 4–18 cm across. It contains several many seeds in each section. Nectar eating birds and predators will eat the nectar produced, it will attract insect and insect eaters. Honeyeaters are attracted to the nectar filled flowers.
